FED: Union to hold independent inquiry into Victorian branch

SYDNEY, Dec 4 AAP - The nation's largest manufacturing union will hold an independent
inquiry into one of its own branches following allegations of violence, intimidation and
bullying.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) national council met in Sydney today
and voted to hold an independent inquiry into the union's Victorian branch.

The independent inquiry will be conducted by Joe Riordan, a former deputy president
of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, and Tom McDonald, a former national
secretary of the Building Workers Industrial Union.

The inquiry comes after Victorian Premier Steve Bracks last week urged the national
arm of the AMWU to control rogue elements of the union.

Mr Bracks wrote to AMWU national secretary Doug Cameron seeking action on militant
activities of the union's Victorian Workers First faction.
